July Cattle DriveDepending on the range conditions and cattle breeding program, we generally trail the second Double Rafter herd to the top of the Big Horn Mountains in the second or third week of July. Like the June trip, we begin in the foothills and spend 6 days / 6 nights climbing our way to the 9,000 foot level of the National Forest.
Chuck wagon and out rider - - Big Horn Foothills During this trip, we usually begin with 200 to 250 cows and pick up the June herd of 300 head for the last two days of the drive. With this many animals and the nature of the trail, the herd will string out for two to three miles.
First morning Again, like all our trips, it's all chuck wagon and pack mule cuisine and lodging. We generally finish above tree line at our Lake Creek camp and then take you back to Sheridan for our send-off banquet.
